Types of Lymphoedema

There are two main types of lymphoedema

1. Primary lymphoedema – lymphoedema caused due to faulty genes which develops at birth
   or shortly after puberty.
2. Secondary lymphoedema – lymphoedema caused due to damage of lymphatic system caused
   by injury, infection, trauma or cancer.

Cancer treatment by radiotherapy can damage the lymphatic system while destroying
the cancer cells.
